Chinese rover Zhurong performs space mission exploration tasks


China is now the second country, after the United States, to operate a rover on the Red Planet.

The Chinese Martian rover Zhurong completed its exploration and detection tasks as planned.

As of August 15, Zhurong had worked on the surface of Mars for 90 Martian days, or about 92 days on Earth, with all science payloads having started working on detection tasks, the Xinhua News Agency quoted the Administration as saying. National Space Agency of China (CNSA). as told.

The CNSA added that the rover will continue to move towards the border area between the old sea and the old land in the southern part of Utopia Planitia, and will perform additional tasks.

On May 15, Zhurong – named after a mythical Chinese fire god – landed on his pre-selected landing zone in the southern part of Utopia Planitia, a vast plain in the northern hemisphere of Mars.

China launched its Tianwen-1 Mars probe on July 23 last year. The spacecraft, consisting of an orbiter, lander and rover, entered Mars parking orbit on February 24 this year.

The orbiter is equipped with seven types of scientific instruments: two remote sensing cameras, a subsoil exploration radar orbiting Mars, a Mars mineralogy spectrometer, a Mars magnetometer, a neutral particle analyzer and ionics from Mars and an energetic particle analyzer from Mars.

The six-wheeled solar rover, resembling a blue butterfly with a mass of 240 kg, carries the field camera, the multispectral camera, the Mars-Rover underground exploration radar, the Mars surface composition detector, the Mars Magnetic Field Detector and the Mars Weather Monitor.

The objectives of Tianwen-1 are to map the morphology and geological structure, to study the characteristics of the surface soil and the distribution of water and ice, to analyze the composition of surface materials, to measure the ionosphere and characteristics of the Martian climate and environment on the surface and perceive the physical fields and internal structure of Mars, according to the report.
