Here, the CEO of SpaceX (@Elon Musk) clarified by saying that Chris Thompson was not a co-founder of the space company but that he was only a “first employee”. Yes, sometimes we can be wrong in thinking that people in important positions or important roles, like that of engineer in a space company, mean that they have a huge responsibility, as much as being co-founders.
However, that doesn’t apply to everyone, and it’s also evident with Thompson’s booth with SpaceX, which he initially served and became a part of.
It was at the start of SpaceX, something the billionaire CEO remembered and clarified.

Who is Chris Thompson?
Christopher Thompson was a former employee of three large private space companies, including that of SpaceX, Virgin Galactic and Astra Space, Inc. With the latter company, Thompson has recently announced his departure, something he does with great joy, as he moves on to his personal preferences or decisions.
Thompson was a former chief engineer for Astra Space, and although his role for SpaceX or Virgin Galactic was not as massive as the first, he still served as an engineer. His company profile is now unavailable.
Being an engineer for a space company is huge, especially because the basics of a spaceship depend on it: how it would fly, plot a course, be built, prevent it from exploding or self-destructing, and other responsibilities.
Astra Space, Inc.
Astra Space, Inc., is an American space launcher company from California spun out of Chris Kemp and Adam London which started in 2016. The company is huge and has a team of 100 employees since 2020, where it first made a orbit test, which ultimately failed.
It is a relatively new company in the market, and it challenges SpaceX, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic, which are known to be space tycoons with a proven track record in orbit.
That being said, Astra is still aiming for the skies and aiming to launch its spacecraft into orbit, soon becoming a private space company that would offer its services to the public.
