The ‘Fantastic Four’ Leak Could Reveal a Bold Change for the Marvel Cinematic Universe

What is most important movie in Marvel’s future? The studio’s slate includes major sequels for some of its biggest stars and properties, from Thor and Captain Marvel to Ant-Man and Black Panther. Beyond that, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to introduce fan favorites like Blade and the X-Men. And don’t forget about the inevitable Avengers 5. But if a new rumor is to be believed, the next biggest Marvel movie is none other than The Fantastic Four.

The surprising inspiration of the Fantastic Four

Our latest update comes from Twitter, where an account titled @grandphase15 began sharing the alleged Marvel leaks. We’d take them with a grain of salt, at least for now, but what they claim to know about The Fantastic Four is interesting enough to merit closer examination.

The lessor declares that The Fantastic Four could be done in a “very Star Trek-inspired way”. Of course, that could mean almost anything. Will the new Marvel movie look like Star Trek: The Original Series? Discovery? picard?

It could also be more of a reference to the general looseness of the rival franchise when it comes to things like canon and continuity. While all of Star Trek takes place in the same universe (except for the JJ Abrams movies, of sorts), various shows and movies are set hundreds of years apart. This makes the continuity a little easier to argue. Could The Fantastic Four take place in the MCU’s far future – or past?

The Fantastic Four in space.wonder

Wild speculation aside, the most likely explanation is that The Fantastic Four will look like the unique sci-fi brand of Star Trek. This could be a movie about space exploration beyond what we’ve seen in guardians of the galaxy. Or maybe this film will truly explore the multiverse – unlike the limited journey that Doctor Strange took.

@greatphase15 adds an additional detail: The Fantastic Four is “among the most important franchises” Kevin Feige has ever made. Again, this is a rather ambiguous statement. Does it matter to the MCU as a whole? Is it emotionally important for Feige himself? Does it matter because the previous Fantastic Four movies were all so bad?

It is too early to say for sure. But with earlier reports suggesting that Marvel may be on the hunt for a “big name” director to help the film, The Fantastic Four is shaping up to be one of the most exciting (and mysterious) movies of the MCU’s future.
