The CEO and co-founder of the space firm, Helene Huby, explained that Europe is still lagging behind the United States in the space race.

It’s been the same scenario for ten years. Before Huby founded her new startup, she worked as Vice President of the European Service Module at Airbus.

However, she decided to quit her job in August 2021 and start her own company which focuses on reusable rockets.

According to TechCrunch’s latest report, Huby quit her recent job because she no longer wants to work on a spacecraft that isn’t reusable or can’t be refueled.

“I didn’t want to spend my life working on a vehicle that’s not reusable, that can’t be refueled,” said The Exploration Company CEO.

Through his efforts, the rising European aerospace startup acquired a $5.3 million seed round, led by Promus Ventures.

At press time, The Exploration Company’s workforce has already reached 30 employees. Helene claimed that their new venture was different from other space companies since their co-founders were from other space companies.

The Exploration Company’s reusable rocket

Before the end of 2022, The Exploration Company plans to launch its re-entry orbital vehicle demonstrator called “Bikini”. After that, they will say their first working prototype around 2024.

As of this writing, their 2024 mission is already 80% pre-booked with customer payloads. In 2026, the rising European space firm will send Nyx, its true orbital vehicle, on its maiden flight.

The official website of The Exploration Company stated that the name of their reusable rocket came from Nyx, a Greek goddess with excellent navigational skills.

Nyx will have two components; the capsule and the service module. On top of that, it will also use solar panels, a heat shield, and reusable cryo-engines.

It will be powerful enough to carry up to 4,000 kilograms into low Earth orbit.

The new reusable rocket can do this for up to six months. If you want to see more details about SpaceX’s new competitor Dragon Capsule, you can visit this link.

On the other hand, experts claim that there will be new weaponized SpaceX Starship rockets.
